Longtime ABC7 News reporter Jim Vargas passed away

Former ABC7 News reporter Jim Vargas, a Bay Area native, has passed away at the age of 78. He covered significant events such as the Patty Hearst kidnapping, Moscone-Milk assassinations, and the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, earning recognition including an Emmy award. His career spanned over 40 years, working for ABC7, KRON, and KTVU. Vargas is survived by his sister, sister-in-law, and eleven nieces and nephews. A viewing and funeral mass will be held at St. Brendan's Church in San Francisco.

Book checked out in 1927 was returned to Napa library

Involuntary manslaughter conviction in ‘Grandpa Vicha' trial

San Jose bans ICE from using its properties

The San Jose City Council has unanimously voted to prohibit U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from using 11 city garages, parking lots, and the parking areas of 75 community centers and libraries as staging areas or operational bases. This policy aims to protect immigrant communities and follows similar actions taken by Santa Clara County and Chicago. Signs will be posted at all locations, and city employees will be required to report any ICE activity to their supervisors. The policy does not affect properties already in use by federal agencies or impede lawful federal duties.
