Longtime ABC7 News reporter Jim Vargas passed away
Former ABC7 News reporter Jim Vargas, a Bay Area native, has passed away at the age of 78. He covered significant events such as the Patty Hearst kidnapping, Moscone-Milk assassinations, and the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, earning recognition including an Emmy award. His career spanned over 40 years, working for ABC7, KRON, and KTVU. Vargas is survived by his sister, sister-in-law, and eleven nieces and nephews. A viewing and funeral mass will be held at St. Brendan's Church in San Francisco.
