Am I crazy for feeling it’s really bad for Canada to have closer ties to China?
It feels like a switch has been flipped on Reddit and everyone is suddenly pro-China, pro-pretending China is “lawful” and completely oblivious to what China is doing.
I get that the USA isnt friendly right now and I’m also bothered by the US’ inaction with Russia and now Iran but inaction is not as bad as action.
China has verifiably been supporting Putin. They sell drone parts to Russia, buy Russian oil, and their propaganda is all pro Russian. China supports Iran in a similar way.
China isnt “lawful.” They allow their fishing fleets to harvest squid near protected zones in places like the Galapagos, far, far, away from China. They “salami slice” territory from Bhutan, the Philippines, Vietnam, and even try that with India. Every anti-west dictator, including North Korea is supported by China.
Oh and remember Tibet? Remember the uighurs?
Remember the two Canadians China imprisoned? Remember how quickly China flips on trade deals to “punish” countries like Australia, Japan, and even Canada?
How is this all “not as bad as trump?” Are we really ok with having closer ties to one of the most oppressive nations in the world and why? For cheap EVs?
There are so many other countries, with massive populations, that would make good trade partners without selling our souls.
Anyway it’s so weird to see people who are extremely pro Ukraine be cheering having trade deals with a country that supplies the drone parts that allow Russia to terrorize Ukrainian cities.
So am I crazy for feeling like all the cheering is manufactured? That someone flipped a switch to flood places like Reddit with clapping seals?
