We All Need a Home of Our Own. The Burrowing Owl Is No Different.
A new effort is underway to restore this owl's population and habitat
The Burrowing Owl Conservation Society of British Columbia is dedicated to restoring the population and habitat of the burrowing owl, which has been in decline due to habitat loss and persecution. The society has implemented a burrowing owl reintroduction program, using artificial burrows and captive breeding to release over 2,000 owls into the wild. However, the owls face challenges during migration, with only 8.3 percent returning the following spring. The society is exploring options such as establishing protected areas and international cooperation to improve the owls' survival rates.
