Villain of the Day: Paul Singer
Paul Singer is in the news today because he seems to be the prime beneficiary of the recent military action in Venezuela.
A couple months ago he bought CITGO, an American subsidiary of Venezuela's state-owned oil company, for pennies on the dollar because sanctions were destroying their ability sell on the open market. It seems obvious that once the US military completes regime change, the sanctions will be dropped and CITGO's revenue will skyrocket.
It doesn't even make sense for Singer to buy this company in November unless he already knew that regime change was coming. This transaction is ridiculous. Paul Singer is doing Scatino-style bust-outs to entire countries and that only works if you know you have military backing.
