The TikTok ban’s architects are in the dark
Despite a bipartisan bill passed to ban or force the sale of TikTok due to national security concerns, the app remains in the US, largely due to President Trump's intervention. Lawmakers, who initially expressed grave concerns about TikTok's Chinese ownership, have been largely silent on Trump's deal, which involves spinning off TikTok's US operations into a new entity partially controlled by US companies. The deal raises questions about compliance with the law and the potential for ongoing Chinese influence, but Congress has shown little resistance to Trump's repeated extensions of the ban deadline.
Lawmakers who passed the bill that should have banned TikTok by now are staying quiet about how it’s played out.
