‘Space particle’ slams into Spain’s new communications satellite high above Earth

SpainSat NG-2, Spain's newest communications satellite, was struck by a 'space particle' at an altitude of 31,000 miles (50,000 kilometers) above Earth. The impact occurred while the satellite was en route to its operational geostationary orbit. The extent of the damage is currently unknown, and Hisdesat is analyzing the available data. A contingency plan is in place to ensure the Ministry of Defense and other clients are not affected, with a potential replacement of the satellite if necessary.
