Arts & Letters Daily - flying the flag of the old web experience
Arts & Letters Daily, a section of The Chronicle of Higher Education, presents a diverse collection of essays and articles on philosophy, literature, criticism, history, art, and music. It covers a wide range of topics, from the lives and works of famous writers and artists to the impact of intellectual movements and the evolution of cultural concepts.
AL daily has been around for years - since 1998 according to their header, so that’s at least 25 years.
I don’t think the site or the format has changed at all in that time.
Each day, a link to three long form pieces of quality writing: an “article of note”, a book review, and an essay or opinion piece.
It’s the sort of site that has been on my RSS feeds or bookmarks for literally a couple of decades. If I ever think “I need something to read”, I head there, almost guaranteed to find something interesting and well written.
It still feels exactly as it did a couple of decades ago - same design, same simplicity. A relic of a better time…
