Does Modafinil actually help if you are already well-rested and smart? This research suggests a massive "ceiling effect."
I am reading through the human neurocognitive section of this Modafinil review, and it confirms something I've suspected (https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC2654794/)
While the studies show it definitely improves working memory, attention, and impulse control, these effects were mostly seen in people who were sleep-deprived or had lower baseline performance. The researchers noted that Modafinil had "limited cognitive enhancing effects in already high-performing well-rested individuals."
Does this match your experience? Do you find Moda is only the "best" tool when you are running on fumes, but useless when you are already feeling good?
