Was China’s 1-Child Policy Wise?
China's one-child policy, which lasted for 35 years, led to harsh measures such as forced abortions and sterilizations. Experts now question its necessity as China faces a record low birth rate and an aging population. The policy was scrapped in 2015, but reversing societal attitudes and the resulting gender imbalance has proven difficult. China is now working to boost birth rates.

“In 2016, the government began allowing two children per couple and raised the limit to three children in 2021. But it has proven more difficult to reverse the mentality of people than the policy.”
