New Jersey is participating in a Medicare pilot program to test using AI for deciding which medical procedures should be covered by insurance. The program, starting Jan 1 and running through Dec 31, aims to revamp the prior authorization process to reduce waste, fraud, and abuse. It will be implemented in six states and will use AI to assess coverage for select items and services.
