News fatigue: what it is and how to avoid it | UNC-Chapel Hill
This article from UNC-Chapel Hill discusses news fatigue, a phenomenon where constant exposure to bad news leads to overwhelming feelings and a desire to avoid news altogether. Causes include the internet's unlimited news supply, social media's endless scroll, and the blurring of traditional news with entertainment. While news fatigue itself isn't harmful, it can lead to news avoidance, which can negatively impact daily life. To avoid burnout, strategies include taking breaks from social media, time-blocking news consumption, and focusing on specific topics.
I know I for sure have struggled with this :(. What’s helped me at least is to limit my time on social media. I downloaded the app called BePresent and it’s really helped me control how often I go on social media and also make me more aware of how many times I’m actually going to the apps.
