Using ChatGPT to Practise Guitar – Surprisingly Effective!
I’ve been using ChatGPT as my practice buddy for guitar chord transitions, and it’s turned into a really neat system that has helped me stay consistent and see measurable progress. Thought I’d share how it works in case anyone wants to try it. How it works: - I log each practice session with the specific chord pairs I’m working on (like G→C, D→A, F barre→C). - ChatGPT helps track the transitions, the tempo I’m hitting (BPM), and even suggests new chord pairs that keep things balanced. - Over time, we’ve built a master log that shows where I’ve improved and where I’m still shaky. Why I like it: - Consistency: The daily logs keep me accountable. I can see my progress week by week, which is super motivating. - Customization: The system evolves with me. When I wanted to split open chords and barre chords for more focused practice, ChatGPT adapted instantly. - Clarity: It removes guesswork. I know exactly what to practice next instead of randomly cycling through songs or drills. - Progress tracking: It’s easy to spot improvements, like moving from 50 BPM to 85 BPM on certain transitions. - ChatGPT also keeps sharing info for each chord pair (what kind of music, how common, etc. - Having this conversation in a project folder has also allowed me to add more customisation. I’ve added the chord shapes to the folder for easy reference. I know it’s not a replacement for a teacher, but for structured daily practice, this has been a game changer. I guess I could also get ChatGPT to start each session with a “Hey, Hey…how you doing?” :)
