What are you hoping for in terms of the Ghostbusters Netflix animated series?
Netflix's upcoming Ghostbusters animated series is set to be classified as kids' programming, according to Sony Pictures Entertainment's executive vice president. The series, being produced by Sony Pictures Animation for Netflix, is part of Sony's youth-focused television lineup, which also includes 'The Creature Cases' and 'Goosebumps'.
It is supposedly set in the future in NYC. Personally, if it’s a kids series and stylistically like “Into the Spiderverse,” I hope they can bring some of the seriousness and lore depth of something like “Camp Cretaceous” to it. A future NYC that treats the current movies as canon had better have an expanded Ghostbusters engineering division and I hope we see the equipment continue to evolve.
The animation style they’re teasing seems really promising in terms of ghosts. Other than Slimer, I’m not sure what fan favorites I’m hoping to see, but hope we get depth and tragedy to some of the ghost characters like we did in some of the better episodes of RGB. I’m thinking “Ragna Rock and Roll,” “The man who never reached home,” and “Ghostbuster of
The Year.”
I don’t want to see repeats of the Ghostbusters being out of business and starting up again. The containment unit having been destroyed and letting all the ghosts out. A future NYC taken over by ghosts. I think that’s all been done too much and are excuses at this point for poor plot development.
Show me the ghostbusters doing their jobs, the franchise expanded.
