India’s turbulent involvement in Iran’s Chabahar port all but collapses
India has completed its financial commitment to the Chabahar port in Iran, transferring $120 million before the US reinstated sanctions on the port. The US sanctions have forced India to withdraw from the port, and the state-owned entity tasked with developing and operating the port has resigned en masse. The strategic importance of the port lies in its location, providing India with a sea-land access route into Afghanistan and Central Asia through Iran’s eastern borders.
