People who played all 3 Dark Souls games: which one do you think is best and why?

I've just finished DS3 (I played DS1R -> DS2SOTF -> DS3 (no DLC)).

Dark Souls 1 is by far my favourite.

I think DS2 and DS3 are pretty close together. DS2 has abhorrent default controls for KBM. It has some really good locations, but they lack my favourite feature of DS1: how intertwined the map is. DS3 is definitely going back to the root to a tiny degree with how its locations are intertwined, which I enjoyed a lot. My biggest issue with DS3 was it had no good looking locations. I've never stopped in awe, the way I would in DS1, especially in the ash lake location, or in DS2 in Shrine of Amara.

I think boss-wise and combat wise I liked DS3 the least. It had multiple bullshit moves which made it very unpleasant. On the other hand, DS2 was too fond of ganging up the enemies on you. I liked DS1 the best - it felt fair and balanced.

I played each game starting as a wretch or whatever the equipment-less class is.
