The Hero With A Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell
It introduced me to the concept of the "monomyth" or hero's journey and that all cultures embody this concept to varying degrees. While it may seem obvious now, at least for me at the time when I read it, the idea that all cultures use stories to understand who they are was a revelation.
On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft by Stephen King
I grew up on reading Stephen King. He was an original inspiration to me who inspired me to want to become a writer (work in progress). His short stories, particularly The Long Walk and then The Stand mesmerized my young mind. After reading On Writing, I realized that each writer has their own way of working and the glimpse inside the life of a writer always stayed with me.
