Half of world’s CO2 emissions come from just 32 fossil fuel firms, study shows

Just 32 fossil fuel companies were responsible for half the global carbon dioxide emissions in 2024, according to a report by InfluenceMap. Saudi Aramco was the largest state-controlled polluter, while ExxonMobil was the largest investor-owned polluter. Critics accuse these companies of sabotaging climate action, but the emissions data is increasingly being used to hold them accountable.
