Right now Digg feels like a dead pub.
I live walking distance from three pubs. The farthest one away is an amazing gastro pub with good beers in tap, excellent food, a good vibe, and great staff. I can guarantee that 100% of the time I go there, I’ll be satisfied. It’s a little spendy and a bit far to walk on a whim. I’m still there at least once a month. The second closest pub is more chill, traditional, the food is less good but cheaper. I can walk here easily, I’m here every other week, I take my friends here when they’re in from out of town. The closest pub a can throw rocks at it’s so close. They hardly ever have anyone working the kitchen, the TVs are always on the football or horses, you have a good chance of getting a skunky pint in a questionably clean glass, I’ve been twice and never gone back. Right now Digg feels like that third pub. The barrier to entry is so low, but I’m questioning the quality of the experience each time I’m here. Posts seem to update slowly, there are a lot of Digg nostalgia posts that I just find cringy (sorry!), super lame AI generated images in posts and comments, and not to mention the strain of the policial load that Digg can’t seem to handle right now (everything is political, get over it nerds!). Sorry for the labored out anaology. I’d love to see Digg succeed in its own niche and I know it can’t be everything to everyone. It seems like it should be possible to create a better minimum/default experience, which I think starts with us as users? I dunno. Throw something in the comments.
