MY Community was Taken
You may see my story passing around, and I want to clarify in one place that I spoke up because it is all of us creators that are at risk of the Reddit takeover. If you’ve got a community that is from Reddit or a popular aspect of our society, you are at risk of it being claimed by reservation.
I was emailed by Forest Anderson, and he left no room for discussion with Digg’s decision to remove ownership of the community I created and give it to another individual. I was aware of how popular the brand was that I was creating an ecosystem for on Digg, and I was proud to bring it here. I knew in my heart it was an opportunity to do something new and great.
I planned the claim and created the community ASAP after watching nearly daily with all my due diligence. The opportunity came, and I claimed it first, and WallStreetBets was mine on Digg — the new ecosystem as I would envision it. I am no fool to what I had, and I am still no fool to what I have lost. It was my opportunity and Digg’s opportunity for something new.
I am not just a random opportunist. In fact, I have been using Digg since I was in my early teens in the 2000s. Nearly every day was my routine to go to “digg.com.” Now I feel like a fan who had their idol slap their hands away when asking for an autograph at the game.
I didn’t come out of nowhere like ZJZ, the new owner. I was a Digg pioneer, and I even left Reddit as this part of the project progressed. This was supposed to be new, but instead this is the red-carpet rollout for Reddit and the influential likes that I was so tired of.
I got WallStreetBets, and I got CryptoCurrency. I wanted to make new ecosystems here. I have family members that got other great communities, and none of them are receiving “Reserved” emails from @forest.
Can this community show me and Digg what the Digg essence really is? Because I know I am here among a group with a moral compass and logic for what this really means.
