Congrats on the public launch but but but... where did the team go wrong?
It has been over a year, and I was genuinely excited when the Digg team mentioned that we would be able to become early supporters of the platform and secure our handles at a small price. The platform evolved, community features were introduced, and some communities were created even before it was opened up to everyone.
What was absolutely shocking was that, without any prior indication, community creation was enabled and made available right from day one of the public launch, even for completely new users. For a community driven platform, the community plays a crucial role. This feature should at least have been limited to early supporters for a few weeks before being opened to others, and for the rest - with some minimum criteria in place for creating a community.
That approach would have helped maintain the quality of communities being created. Instead, people are now rushing to capture handles left, right, and center. I understand that the true value of a community lies in the people contributing to it rather than the handle itself, but this could and should have been planned better.
Sorry to spoil the public launch celebration team. With all the updates you have been sharing over the months, we thought you would do the right thing.
