Are communities going to be reclaimed or have ownership transferred by Digg?
I made a post about a bug I experienced when trying to edit a community’s About description.
A commenter in that post mentioned how a member of staff reached out to them to inform them that their community was supposed to be reserved, so ownership was then transferred over to a new person.
That Digg community in question is . I know it has a specific history over at a competitor site, so I don’t feel qualified to get into that.
The one I’m wondering about today is the one I currently manage. Of course I want it to be a fun and special place for bird content on Digg, but if ownership was supposed to be reserved it would be nice to know ahead of time. I don’t really care about the land grab aspect of this, so if it needs to be transferred to a respectable steward of this niche then so be it!
But I will say it would be really weird if we eventually find out that the effort we put into creating a community with care eventually transfers over to a Reddit equivalent simply because they have popularity on another site.
That would be like a large community-run subreddit coming over to Digg to say “hey we own this elsewhere, so we’re going to run it here too”.
Would appreciate having transparency into this kind of decision making. Answers upfront will probably provide a lot of needed reassurance and save disappointment down the road.
What’s the final verdict?
