Digg is not handling "off topic" spam at ALL - Image

Considering we're so early in the site's lifespan, and it's still in closed beta, it's relatively safe to say that there isn't really a bot presence, however there seems to be a tremendous surge of users acting just like bots by posting what is basically spam content that isn't even related to the communities they're posting in, or treating communities like their own Facebook page with absolutely random content that has nothing to do with the purpose for the community or category. This is glaringly obvious, and what's so disheartening about it is that the community as a whole seems to be endorsing it, by boosting these random and/or spam posts, because they appeal to their "oh, that's cute, I don't care if it doesn't belong here" or "yo, this lines up with my ideology, even if it has nothing to do with the community it was posted in." Devs, you really need to get on creating the ability for custom communities and moderation ASAP, or at minimum enforce some form of order. Currently, we can't even report posts for content not related to the community it's showing up in, only glaringly malicious or inappropriate content. And again, this is another reason to remove the gamification/stat elements, because users are going to continue trying to skirt guidelines for a healthy community if it means they can get a ton of attention and/or Diggs for their random posts, which is what's currently happening. (And let's be real, these are upvotes and downvotes, not Diggs. Everything about the site as of late has felt like Reddit 2.0, and a lot less like ANYTHING resembling what Digg ever was.) I don't know, it just feels like Digg is starting to drift away from its original goal. I applaud the users posting quality content and news, but the low-hanging spam I see on a near-consistent basis is turning Digg into more of an afterthought for me, and that's after promoting the heck out of the site over the last few weeks.
