Lawsuit Accuses Starbucks of Misleading Buyers on Sustainability and Chemical Content
It's almost 100% certain that Starbucks Cafe Practices program is nonsense. They basically audit themselves and there is no larger governing body that checks them.
Two consumers have filed a lawsuit against Starbucks, alleging the company misled buyers with its '100% Ethical Coffee Sourcing' claims and failed to disclose industrial solvents in some decaffeinated coffee products. The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington, claims Starbucks' marketing materials made false promises about ethical sourcing, citing labor and human rights abuses at some certified farms. Additionally, the suit alleges that Starbucks did not disclose the presence of chemicals such as benzene, toluene, and methylene chloride, which may have affected consumer purchasing decisions.
