Pero Bridge lovelocks artwork - no budget.
Bristol City Council removed hundreds of 'lovelocks' from Pero's Bridge due to safety concerns, but no money has been budgeted for transforming them into a new artwork as promised. The council had initially estimated bridge repairs to cost £200,000, but recent surveys showed the structural issues were less severe, reducing the cost to £60,000. Despite the savings, no funds have been allocated for the planned public sculpture, and the locks remain unused.
The lovelocks were removed with the promise that they would be made into an art display of some sort. No progress has been made and no funds set as side for the project. Now love locks are returning to the bridge and will continue to do so. Is there a solution? Should be bridge be changed so that locks can’t be added to it?
