We are ready for LADWP to keep its promises
At a meeting in Los Angeles in the fall of 2025, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power stated that once additional recycled water is made available by the expanded capacity of the Tillman’s Water Reclamation Plant, it will reduce water extraction for the benefit of Mono Lake. This was a very important declaration. Connecting an increase in its supply of “truly local water,” (meaning water from Los Angeles County made available through storm water capture, recycling, or use of groundwater) with reducing extraction from the Mono Basin is an important step for LADWP. Many, many thanks to the Mono Lake Committee. Their tireless advocacy, over many decades, including providing assistance to LADWP to increase the capacity of the Tillman plant, led to that watershed statement (pun intended).
