We are ready for LADWP to keep its prom­ises

At a meet­ing in Los Angeles in the fall of 2025, the Los Angeles Depart­ment of Water and Power stated that once addi­tional recycled water is made avail­able by the expan­ded capa­city of the Till­man’s Water Reclam­a­tion Plant, it will reduce water extrac­tion for the bene­fit of Mono Lake. This was a very import­ant declar­a­tion. Con­nect­ing an increase in its sup­ply of “truly local water,” (mean­ing water from Los Angeles County made avail­able through storm water cap­ture, recyc­ling, or use of ground­wa­ter) with redu­cing extrac­tion from the Mono Basin is an import­ant step for LADWP. Many, many thanks to the Mono Lake Com­mit­tee. Their tire­less advocacy, over many dec­ades, includ­ing provid­ing assist­ance to LADWP to increase the capa­city of the Till­man plant, led to that water­shed state­ment (pun inten­ded).
