Ranger Station Road walk
I call it a walk more than a hike. If you drive west on Ranger Station Rd. in Round Valley, it ends at a gate. You can walk uphill a mile to the old ranger station. There are spring-fed creeks, meadows, a fenced storage yard with a concrete bunker, and old water pipes and other equipment laying around. It’s all abandoned now. If you want a quiet walk right at the base of Wheeler Ridge, it’s a nice place to just hang out for a while.
It’s about a mile from the first locked gate to the old ranger station location. At the foot of the old pasture, there’s a grave labeled “Baby,” which I assume was a pet (there’s a photo - the one with the cross).
Have fun, and enjoy the great weather we’ve been having!
