Silly things only locals probably know...
Did you know that the streets in Rovana (about 9 miles north of Bishop), which is the
housing tract that was built to support the workers and families for the old Pine Creek Mine, spell out "VANADIUM?"
The street names, going from East to West, are:
Virginia
Arizona
Nevada
Alabama
Dakota (Not sure why they didn't go with "Delaware" for a single state name)
Idaho
Utah
Montana
So, VANADIUM. Which seems strange, since it was a tungsten mine, primarily. Maybe they mined for vanadium first? Anyway, just one of those little Bishop quirks that probably only locals know. And now, you do, too!
