New Jersey has enacted a new law requiring licenses and insurance for e-bikes, with riders needing to be at least 15 years old. The law, signed by Gov. Phil Murphy, mandates registration and licensing for motorized bicycles, with fees waived for the first year. It also prohibits e-bikes and electric scooters from using non-motorized trails with natural surfaces, though local governments can make exceptions. Law enforcement must report e-bike accidents to the state Department of Transportation and the Motor Vehicle Commission.

My wife and I are about to move to Richmond, VA and go carless. We will be all bicycle or bus. I guess we will look for a couple of used bikes with hopefully rear derailleur only, disc brakes, flat handlebars, panniers and fenders, lights and bell. I think I will buy some of that
