Kinder Surprise Birthday Cake
First cake of the year was for my daughter’s 2nd birthday. I chose a Kinder Surprise theme (which really just meant I wanted to stick a bunch of Kinder Surprise chocolates onto it).
I started with a basic butter cake, for the other Aussies out there it’s from the Women’s Weekly Birthday Cake book. It’s very stable and easy to make, but not very flavoursome. I made two tiers, marbling chocolate and vanilla batters together.
The vanilla buttercream went on ok, just some visible lines but I didn’t care too much since I’d planned to have both a drip and shavings to cover up a lot of it. I mixed some white chocolate ganache into the buttercream to give it some more flavour.
The top milk chocolate ganache went on easily, but it was my first time using this particular recipe and I didn’t know how warm it should be to drip nicely. I also ran out part way and had to make more, leading to a chunkier texture in parts.
The shavings were plain white and milk chocolate.
Sadly I didn’t take progress photos or a photo of the inside. I love how it turned out. The entire cake was gone in minutes.
