Why can’t we have nice things?

So many things start out great, then slowly turn into places people avoid. That blue bird logo site becoming a letter is just the latest.

Early social was fun before they turned hostile, toxic & spammy. Somewhere along the line the vibe changes, the noise wins and normal people drift away. I hope Digg 2.0 can resolve this

Is this just what happens once something gets big? Bad incentives? Bad moderation? Or is it impossible to keep a large online space from eventually sliding into enshitification?
