Buff-tailed bumblebee (being busy)
This buff-tailed bumblebee (Bombus terrestris), was photographed last year in my garden in the UK. I captured this image it while it was busy collecting nectar from a liatris (which they love). Its black body with two bright yellow bands and a pale, buff-coloured tail make it easy to identify. One of the most common bumblebees in the UK, it is gentle and a vital pollinator for flowers and crops. A lot of people are scared of bumblebees because of their size and loud buzzing. The buff-tailed bumblebee, in particular, is known for its calm nature - it truly is a chilled out bee. It very rarely stings unless it is directly threatened.
