There are plenty of reasons to be pessimistic about world affairs at the moment, but what makes you optimistic about the future?
I'll go first: I've enjoyed hearing increasingly prominent voices in my generation (millennials like Gary Stevenson and Zack Polanski) challenging established economic thinking.
Even though I don't agree with everything said or feel fully assured by their current sketches of plans, I do think these conversations are a necessary precursor to a shift in the economy away from the extreme and growing inequality we see in late-stage neo-liberal capitalism. Diagnosing the problem (resources pooling at the top) is a huge step forward. Feels good.
I obviously lean left. You may not. I still want to hear what's making you feel optimistic and hopefully we can relate.
