New psych hospital coming to Amarillo

Amarillo breaks ground on a new psychiatric hospital, part of Texas' $1.5 billion investment in mental health. The facility, expected to open in 2027, will provide 75 beds, including 50 for those in the criminal justice system with mental health disorders. This hospital aims to improve access to mental health care in the Panhandle region, which currently relies on Wichita Falls, over 200 miles away, for inpatient care.
