Record $2.7B in crypto stolen in 2025, North Korea takes 60%
In 2025, cybercriminals stole over $2.7 billion in crypto, marking the third consecutive year of record-breaking crypto thefts. The largest heist was the breach at Dubai-based crypto exchange Bybit, where hackers stole around $1.4 billion. North Korean government hackers were accused of this and other major crypto thefts, which have totaled around $6 billion since 2017. Other significant hacks included breaches against Cetus, Balancer, and Phemex, netting hackers millions in stolen crypto.
