A brief history of Time Machine
Time Machine, Apple's backup utility, was introduced in 2007 with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, initially supporting Time Capsules and HFS+ file systems. It evolved from using hard links to create efficient backups to incorporating APFS snapshots in High Sierra, enhancing speed and efficiency. Despite challenges like compatibility issues and the inability to back up the System volume in Big Sur, Time Machine has significantly transformed Mac backup practices, making regular backups more common.
