macOS Icon History — Basic Apple Guy

Explore the evolution of macOS system icons, from solid materials to the new Liquid Glass design in macOS 26, featuring softer, shinier icons.

Are Apple moving forwards or backwards with their UI design? Liquid Glass is proving to be very divisive already. I liked it initially but I’m holding off on forming a proper opinion once I’ve used it myself. The overall direction they’ve taken with the design of app icons is, in my opinion, a little disappointing. The old OS X designs had a lot of personality and some of the Liquid Glass versions are a far cry from the original look. Curious to hear what fellow Digglets think about it!
