Weight loss drugs for cats? Company launches clinical trial of GLP-1 implants in cats
Okava Pharmaceuticals, a San Francisco-based company, is launching a clinical trial for a GLP-1 implant to help overweight cats lose weight. The implant, called MEOW-1, will be tested on up to 50 cats over six months, with the aim of filing for FDA approval between 2027 and 2028. The implant is expected to cost around $100 per month and could offer benefits such as reduced diabetes risk and improved joint health. The company also plans to study the implant in dogs.

Okava Pharmaceuticals, a San Francisco based company, plans to introduce on Tuesday a new GLP-1 clinical weight loss study for cats.
MEOW-1, as the study is called, will look to use OKV-119, a miniature implant, in cats which will deliver the GLP-1, continuously for up to six months.
