The Serviço de Regulação e Inspeção de Jogos (SRIJ) ordered the closure of the Polymarket website, stating it operates illegally in Portugal. The regulator recently became aware of the platform, which allows betting on various topics, including the presidential elections, where bets reached over 120 million dollars. The SRIJ emphasized that Polymarket is not authorized to provide betting services in Portugal, as the national legal order does not permit the exploitation of bets on political events. The SRIJ does not take responsibility for any bets or money losses already invested in Polymarket.
