Hard to believe?
Most people accept that a politician can be bought, that a candidate will not vote to represent their constituency, but to further the interests of their donors. But most people seem unwilling to accept that it would be possible to buy two politicians, as in both sides of the ticket. Why do we believe no criminal is smart enough to figure that out and do it?
As long as money defines us, nothing is going to change. War is profitable, so we build more weapons, instead of infrastructure. Sickness is profitable, so we pursue symptoms, instead of cures. Ignorance is profitable, so we create echo chambers, instead of schools. Hate is profitable, so we broadcast division, instead of unity. It's not difficult to see the handiwork of our "democracy" of the last 100 years. It's all around us.
And yet, people who already know that candidates can bought are going to go to the polls believing that, "my candidate is different". Are they though? Has the recipient of our next vote demonstrated that they understand the problem? Will our next vote be for someone who has proven willing to work towards a better future for our nation? Or will we be voting for the next money puppet who promises to "own the libs" or "save the planet" on their way to cashing our checks?
This two party system of ours isn't working, is broken, and is getting worse. Anyone who refuses to see this is hurting all of us by continuing to lend their voice, vote, and money to this charade of a democracy. Can we stop pretending we have two parties now?
