President Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced a framework deal that would give the US control of some land in Greenland for military bases. The deal would make US military bases in Greenland sovereign US territories and allow the US to perform military operations, gather intelligence, and train soldiers without Danish permission. Denmark would transfer sovereignty over Pituffik Space Base and small pockets of land for new bases. This expansion of US territory would be the first since World War II.
