BODYCAM: Baltimore Police officer involved shooting after reaching into car and being dragged

On January 7, 2026, Baltimore Police Officer Rayon Lawrence conducted a traffic stop where he identified a vehicle with a suspended registration. Upon returning the driver's license and registration, Officer Lawrence observed a firearm in the driver's waistband. He then issued verbal commands and proceeded to disarm the driver, Marquise Wells, who fled the scene, dragging the officer. During the struggle, Officer Lawrence discharged his firearm at least once into the vehicle. The driver sought treatment for a gunshot wound and was charged with multiple offenses. Officer Lawrence sustained minor injuries and was treated at a hospital. The Special Investigations Response Team (SIRT) is investigating the incident.
