Trump pardons Rudy Giuliani and others who backed efforts to overturn 2020 election, official says
President Donald Trump has pardoned his former personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani, his former chief of staff Mark Meadows, and others accused of backing his efforts to overturn the 2020 election, according to a Justice Department official. The pardons, which also include conservative attorneys Sidney Powell and John Eastman, were described as a continuation of 'the process of national reconciliation' and were issued despite none of the individuals being charged in federal cases related to the election. The move follows Trump's pardons of hundreds of supporters involved in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, highlighting his ongoing efforts to reshape the narrative of his election loss to Joe Biden.
Combined with the early pardons of the insurrectionists who stormed the capital, everybody involved in trying to overturn the 2020 election have now been pardoned.
