U.S. Army Purple Heart veteran forced to self-deport from Hawaii
A decorated U.S. Army Purple Heart veteran, Sae Joon Park, was forced to self-deport from Hawaii to South Korea after 48 years, despite turning his life around and becoming a loving father.
- Enlisted in the U.S. Army at 19. - Fought in direct combat and was shot twice; one bullet was deflected by his dog tag, narrowly missing his spine. - Received the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in combat. - Honorably discharged after completing his military service. - Had drug issues related to PTSD, but got clean and has been clean for years. - Married father of two, in the country for 48 years. Forced to leave the country. The cruelty and racism are the point.
