[Forbes.com] Justin Birnbaum: "Sporting KC Is Being Sold For Roughly $700 Million, An MLS Record"

The Illig family, owners of Sporting Kansas City since 2006, has agreed to sell a majority stake in the team for approximately $700 million, setting a new MLS record. The buyer, an existing limited partner, will own around 80% of the team, while the Illig family will retain a minority stake and continue to lead the club's shareholder group and management.

Canada Soccer has confirmed the draw procedures for the 2026 TELUS Canadian Championship, which will feature 15 clubs from Major League Soccer, the Canadian Premier League, and League1 Canada. The draw will take place on 17 January 2026, during the Men’s National Team Friendly against Guatemala, LIVE on OneSoccer. The TELUS Canadian Championship is Canada’s premier domestic cup competition, with the winner qualifying for the Concacaf Champions Cup.

[NYTimes.com] Tom Bogert: "Blackmon reports to Whitecaps amid contract dispute, club says he won’t be traded."

The Athletic reports that Tristan Blackmon, the reigning MLS Defender of the Year, has reported to the Vancouver Whitecaps for preseason despite ongoing contract negotiations. The Whitecaps remain firm that Blackmon, whose contract runs through 2027, will not be traded, despite Inter Miami submitting a $3 million bid. Blackmon was a key player in Vancouver's 2025 season, which saw the club win the Canadian Championship and finish as runner-up in MLS Cup and the Concacaf Champions Cup.
