Growing pesticide-free matcha
Nestled in the hills of eastern Wazuka, Azuma Chaen is a family-owned tea farm founded in the late 1800s during the Meiji era. Specializing in low-pesticide tencha, the raw material for matcha, Azuma Chaen avoids using pesticides by harvesting tea only once a year before insect arrival. Their tea fields are either certified JAS organic or in the process of conversion.
