I have strong opinions of people that accuse others of cultural appropriation.
Saw this post on Reddit and while Reddit did it's thing and was very tongue-in-cheek about it all I was a little upset. In my experience, people that point fingers at stuff like this and cry cultural appropriation do not know the half of what culture really is. I had the distinct opportunity to hang out deep in a Yakuza circle while I lived in Japan and being very frank, they don't give a shit about stuff like this. In fact, tattoo artists in Japan would not only dive at the opportunity to do a job like this, they would encourage it. Cultural appropriation is more about commercializing or somehow bastardizing something of cultural significance. It is more than a product of ignorance, it is a deliberate attempt to distance a specific thing from its origin. If anything Japan -related is cultural appropriation have a look at Matcha overuse in coffee drinks. Anyway, I will step off the soapbox. I just wanted to see what Digg thought about the topic. If you have something constructive to add hit up the comments.
