An investigation by central agencies has revealed a Pakistani link in the Cambodia job scam that duped over 5,000 Indians with fake employment offers, forcing them into cyber crime activities. The scam was uncovered in 2024, with victims reporting recruitment by Pakistani agents. Forensic analysis traced IP addresses to servers and handlers in Pakistan, indicating a coordinated network targeting vulnerable job-seekers from various Indian states. The issue was discussed at the 'Anti-Terrorism Conference-2025' in December, highlighting the need for a wider net by agencies like the CBI and NIA. The central agencies have registered the IP addresses in the 'suspect registry', which has helped freeze accounts and save Rs 7,980 crore from fraudulent transactions. The scam is part of a larger trend of cyber scams targeting Indians, mainly run by Chinese operators from high-security compounds in Southeast Asia.
