A Proposal for Groundbreakers Regarding Ads (When that time comes)...
I'd like to ask and the other Digg admins to consider the Groundbreakers when it is time to include advertising on the Digg site. It may not be soon (or, it may!) I'd love to contribute but still ask for a little bit of special treatment for those of us who contributed to the site in its earliest days.
I proposed something like this several months ago during pre-release, not sure how many people saw it.
I'd love to see some sort of system where, if you are a Goundbreaker, you are given the opportunity to purchase an ad-free Digg experience with a different cost and with slightly different conditions from that which would be purchased by the general public.
It would work like this (or something like this)...
Groundbreakers would be offered to contribute $1 per month for as many years as they wish, but only at the time that the offer is made. It would be a one-time purchase, and people can buy in for as many months as they wish.
Where others may be charged $5/month, or $60/year (or whatever Digg chooses to charge), Goundbreakers would be able to pay $1/month, up front, for as many months as they wish.
Like I said before, this would be a one-time offer. If a member makes the purchase at the time it is offered, within (for example) a 30 day window from time the offer is made, it would count. Otherwise, if members let the time run out, they lose the offer and must purchase in the manner of the rest of the public from that point forward.
And, let's say you purchase five years ($60) as part of this deal. After that time ends, you revert to the standard payment scheme that everyone else uses.
One time offer only.
Sure, the amounts might be different (It's up to you, Digg). The idea would benefit Groundbreakers while still making a few bucks for the site and giving some value.
I was on Reddit for over twenty years. I value an ad-free experience, and I really hate the Reddit interface when it contains ads. It is distracting, annoying, and just doesn't look as good. I'd love to see a system where I can enjoy Digg's superior interface without ads, but at a reasonable price.
Just an idea...
Thanks for reading.
