What are some of your recent favorite indie games?
We all know the big AAA releases of the year, but I wanted to see what indie games people here are playing or have played and loved this year. All the ones I'm listing below are on Steam. For me, I just picked up Fell Seal Arbiter's Mark (2019 release) after seeing it featured on a YouTube channel recently. It's a tactics game like Fire Emblem. Another I really like so far is Wordatro. This is a a game from a French developer that obviously takes inspiration from Balatro but instead of being a card game, it's a Scrabble focus. Build words and get multipliers as you upgrade letter tiles. Tons of fun so far. Net.Attack() is an action roguelike that takes place in small arenas. You get experience by killing enemies and hacking nodes and then you can spend it between rounds on upgrades. But what sets it apart is to make new attacks, you're doing some visual programming. You buy these nodes and connect them to make logic statements that power your weapons. Nobody Wants to Die is a noir detective game set in dystopian New York in 2329. It's a first person narrative game where you investigate crimes and uncover unsavory stuff about the city's elite while tracking a serial killer. It released last year, but I just found it recently and am enjoying it. 9 Kings is a strategy builder roguelike where you use drawn cards each turn to place buildings/armies and fight off waves of enemies. One of my favorites of this year so far. Feels very satisfying to play when you build up a powerful army.
